Marilyn Casper, 67, of South Bend, Ind., passed away at 12:18 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, in Memorial Hospital.

She was born on July 24, 1937, in South Bend, to Hershel and Lura Ethel (Tennant) Enfield.

She recently retired as a service coordinator for the First Steps Program. Marilyn celebrated her 25th anniversary with Logan Center this year. She had also been a nurse at the Northern Indiana State Hospital and Memorial Hospital of South Bend.

On Oct. 5, 1957, in Gospel Center Church, as Marilyn Enfield, she married Gerald "Jerry" Casper, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Becky (Doug) Healy of Mishawaka, Ind., Julie (Mike) Flanigan of Niles, Mich., and Cynthia "Cindy" Lynn Casper at home; two sons, David (Sandy) Casper of Benton Harbor, Mich., and John (Kathy) Casper of Granger, Ind.; 10 grandchildren, Jenny, Sara, Kaleigh, Courtney, Brooke, Alec, Jesse, Jacob, Rachel and Laura; four sisters, Gloria Whiteman, DonnaBell Cain and Beverly (Ken) Metz, all of South Bend, and Pat Woods of Mishawaka, Ind.; and three brothers, Gordon (Esther) Enfield of South Bend, George (Mary) Enfield of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Doug (Barb) Enfield of Metz, Ind.

Marilyn was a devoted wife, mother and friend who always put the needs of others before her own. She defined the word caregiver in the way she lived her life. People she knew with any type of problem could rely on Marilyn to be there to help or just listen. Despite her own battle with cancer, she continued her work of helping the children and families who needed support in dealing with disabilities.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive. Burial will follow at St Joseph Valley Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.

Marilyn was a 1955 graduate of Adams High School and a 1958 graduate of the Memorial School of Nursing. She was a member of the Indiana State Nursing Association and a founding member of the Down Syndrome Family Support and Advocacy Group.

Memorial contributions may be made in Marilyn's name to the charity of the donor's choice.
