William Douglas Lawson

William Douglas Lawson, 62, of South Bend Indiana, died April 10, 2014, at Foster G. McGaw Hospital in Maywood, Illinois. Bill was born October 3, 1952, in South Bend, Indiana, to Douglas and Betty Lawson. He was raised in South Bend and attended John Adams High School. After graduating, Bill took a year off to tour the United States by motorcycle and ended up in Vail Colorado. While in Vail, he enjoyed the activities of the Rockies and became a ski instructor.
After returning to South Bend, Bill entered a four year carpentry apprenticeship. During his apprenticeship, Bill refined his skills which enabled him to pursue his passion for building, and became a master carpenter. For the last 27 years, Bill has used his passion of carpentry while working for the Sisters of the Holy Cross.
His other passion in life was his wife Faythe. They met each other through friends on July 5th, getting married one year later to the day. They were blessed with their beautiful baby boy Brandon the following year. Faythe and Bill were inseparable and shared 34 happy years together.
Over the years Bill enjoyed coaching his son's baseball team and never missed a marching band competition in which his son participated. Spending time with family, friends, and their beloved dogs at the family lake house was one of his favorite past times.
Bill is survived by his wife, Faythe; son, Brandon (Jodie Cunningham); sister, Connie Smith (Harley Smith); niece, Ashley Mandy Arnold (Justin Arnold); brother, Craig (Susan Lawson); nephew, Nicholas, and sister-in-law, Barbara Steele.
Memorial services will be held at The Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends on Saturday in the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service.
