MITCHELL, Neb. -- Marijane K. West, 62, of rural Mitchell, Neb., died Saturday, Nov. 20, in her home.

Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, in the Mitchell Evangelical Free Church, with Craig Janson officiating. Interment will be at Mitchell Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be in the church one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mitchell Evangelical Free Church.

Jones Mortuary, Mitchell, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born Oct. 30, 1942, in South Bend, Ind., the daughter of Arthur T. and Edith V. (Sheddrick) Ritter. She graduated from John Adams High School in 1960, received her undergraduate degree from Taylor University in 1964, and her M.A. in librarianship from Denver University in 1972.

Marijane was a teacher at Mishawaka (Ind.) High School from 1964-1969 and the Aurora, Colo., East Middle School from 1969-1972. She was united in marriage to Rex E. West on Dec. 21, 1971, in Denver, Colo. She worked for the Rocky Mountain Research Institute in Denver from 1984-1991. The couple moved to a farm near Mitchell, Neb., in 2000, and Marijane was an advanced planning director for Jones Mortuary and Jolliffe Funeral Homes from 2001 until 2003 when ill health forced her to retire.

She attended the Mitchell Evangelical Free Church in Mitchell. She enjoyed singing in choirs and with groups, and playing the piano. She organized an organic garden group in 2000. She was an avid supporter of Global Missions activities (president of the Nazarene World Missions, Denver First Church of Nazarene).

She is survived by her husband, Rex, and by numerous extended family members.

Her parents preceded her in death.
