In Memory

Anita Walter (Gorino) - Class Of 1959

Anita Walter (Gorino)

Anita was born in Germany in 1941 and immigrated to the United States in 1951 with her father and mother, Caesar and Irene Walter and her younger brother, Gert. Once settled in the United States, her family welcomed her baby brother, Ed in 1954. Anita grew up in South Bend, Indiana and graduated from John Adams High School in 1959. She enjoyed revisting her youth and maintaining friendships through her attendance and involvement in the many high school reunions including her most recent 60-year reunion.

Anita married her first husband, Rudi Zuch, in 1961. Rudi and Anita had two daughters, Theresa and Lorissa. They moved their young family from New York to California in 1965 where they established permanent residency. She married her second husband and life partner, Richard Gorino in 1974. Rick brought two additions into the family as her stepdaughters, Laura and Kim.

Rick and Anita bought their first home together in Chatsworth, California but eventually moved to Thousand Oaks in 1985 where they purchased her forever home on a bluff with a beautiful panoramic city view. Anita loved to sit in the backyard and share her stunning view with friends and family.

Anita spent most of her professional career (40+ years) as a Human Resource consultant and was well respected by her peers. She was most proud of her SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resource) Certification. She mentored many up-and-coming HR professionals and devoted many years of service to her profession including her long standing membership with PIHRA (Professional in Human Resources Association) from 1985 to 2023 and many hours of volunteer work. She also served as president of PIHRA in 1996 and served on the SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) Area 6 Board for three years.

Sadly, after a year long battle with several health issues, Anita passed away on February 11, 2023, surrounded by family. She fought a good fight with her never ending optimism, belief in eternal youth and a big smile.

She is survived by her daughters, Theresa Blake (Jeff Blake) and Lorissa Zuch; stepdaughters, Laura Gorino and Kim Kaiser; brothers, Gert Walter (Margie Walter) and Ed Walter (Teresa Walter); grandchildren, Nicole, Tanner, Troy, Rachel, Sierra, Summer; and one great grandchild, Audriana; as well as many nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Gorino.

A celebration of life service for Anita will be held Thursday, March 2, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Memorial Park, Mortuary & Crematory, 5600 Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village, CA 91362. Reception at the Elks Lodge Thousand Oaks will follow (address/directions will be available at the service).
