Louis Eugene Gene Chamberlin

Louis Eugene "Gene" Chamberlin, 62, of South Bend, IN passed away on Friday, August 12, 2005, in his home, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.

Gene was born on March 20, 1943, in Mishawaka, to the late Louis E. and Dorothy (Mougey) Chamberlin. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Michael and Fred.

He was a 1961 graduate of John Adams High School. In 1966 received his BA in History from St. Joseph's College, Rensellear, IN.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Lynn (Peck) Chamberlin; their son, Joseph Chamberlin of South Bend; daughters, Jennifer (Shane) Sowell o Canogo Park, CA and Joanna (Joel) Holland and their children, Ethan, Andrew, and Logan of South Bend.

Gene was employed by the State of Indiana for the past 13 years. He currently held the position of LAN Administrator Intermediate for St. Joseph County Division of Family Resources. He previously was employed as a programmer analyst for such companies as Elkhart Products, Elkhart, IN., Our Sunday Visitor, Huntington, IN, and First National Bank of Mishawaka.

He loved to spend time with his dog he affectionately called "Pookie", and enjoyed fishing, reading, roller coasters, and watching his Chicago Cubbies "Win". He was an avid Notre Dame Football fan and was a ND football usher for many years. Along with "Pookie" he loved his grand kitty, "Stanley". They enjoyed playing all sorts of lottery games together. His sense of humor is apparent through his children and he will be missed greatly.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, August 15, in Plamer Funeral Home in River Park, 2528 Mishawaka, Ave., South Bend where Pastor Mark Pope of Vineyard Community Church, Mishawaka, will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 3 to 7 PM Sunday in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Gene (Louis Eugene) Chamberlin to the American Cancer Society - Bladder Cancer Research.
