Mr. Dean A. Johnson of 1505 North College Street, South Bend, Indiana was born to Hollis and Pauline
Johnson May 11, 1943 in Urbana, Illinois. Twenty-five years ago, he moved to South Bend from Champaign, Il He graduated from John Adams High School where he was vice-president of both the senior class and the Student Council. He also was an outstanding athlete at Adam and a member of the National Honor Society. 
In 1966 he graduated from Purdue University, West Lafayette, with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. While there,he served as commander of the Army ROTC cadets. Mr. Johnson served two years in the Army as a NATO adviser to the Royal Netherlands Army. He also served in Vietnam and was discharged from the Amy as a captain, a rank he retained in the Army Reserve.


A t the time of his death, Mr. Johnson war the director of ACTION, the Saint Joseph County anti-poverty program. On March 11, 1973 in Anderson, Indiana he married Miss Sharon K. Jackson, who survives.
Mr. Johnson expired Monday July 15, 1974 in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Indiana. Along with his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hollie W. Johnson of Falls Church, Virginia; one son, William C. Johnson and one daughter, Lisa K. Johnson, both at home; one brother, Mr. Bradley Johnson of Berkeley, California; a maternal grandmother, Mrs. Arra Wood of Falls Church; and other relatives and friends.

In 1973, he served as South Bend Chairman of the African Liberation Day rally in Indianapolis, Indiana
