Susan passed away on August 12, 2005 at the age of 57. In 1954, before the Salk
vaccine was available, she was stricken with paralytic polio. She was named the
Indiana State March of Dimes poster child in 1955. She married Bill Leibow from
JAHS Class of ‘66. A graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington, she went on to
receive her Master’s Degree from Butler University, Indianapolis. (Taken in part from

Susan Joy (Schiller) Leibow, 57, of Paradise Valley, Ariz., died August 12, 2005, in Scottsdale North Hospital, Scottsdale, Ariz.

The daughter of Dorothy Schiller and the late Dr. Herbert A. Schiller, she was born in South Bend, Ind., on April 25, 1948. In addition to her mother, Dorothy Schiller, she is survived by her son, Mark Leibow of San Diego, Calif.; her sister, Carol Ann (Dr. Norman) Kempler of Fort Wayne, Ind., and a niece and nephew.

Susan was stricken with paralytic polio in 1954 before the Salk vaccine was available, but she never let her disability defeat her. She was named the Indiana State March of Dimes poster child in 1955. Her positive outlook was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. Susan was a graduate of John Adams High School and Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind. She received her Masters degree from Butler University, Indianapolis. She also attended the University of Arizona, Tucson, where she was a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi national social sorority. Susan taught as a reading specialist in Boston before moving to Paradise Valley.

Services will be held at the Klaehn, Fahl, & Melton Wayne Street Chapel, 420 West Wayne Street, Fort Wayne on Wednesday, August 17 at 1:30 p.m. There will be no calling. Burial will be at Lindewood Cemetery, Fort Wayne.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dorothy and Dr. Herbert A. Schiller Cantorial Music Fund of Temple Beth-El, 305 West Madison St., South Bend, IN 46601 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
