Bonnie Ann Hopper, 59, of Glen Lee Trail, Granger, Ind., passed away from natural causes early Friday, Jan. 2, 2004.

Bonnie was born on March 16, 1944, in Chicago, Ill. She was the second of four children born to John J. and Genevieve (Oslakovich) Borich, who both preceded her in death in 2002.

Bonnie married Al Hopper on Feb. 29, 1964. She is survived by her husband Al; their son, Jamie, and his wife, Leslie of Indianapolis, Ind. She is also survived by a sister, Becky (Rick) Kapsa of Granger; a brother, John J. Jr. (Terry) Borich of South Bend, Ind.; and a sister-in-law, Cindy Borich of South Bend.

Bonnie's younger brother, Dennis Borich, preceded her in death in July 2003.

Bonnie, referred to as "Teta" by her nephews, was always known for her creative cakes on their birthdays. Each nephew received a cake unique and special to their individual personalities. Her great sense of humor always shined through with her cakes, whether it was gummy worms covering the cake, or a hidden rubber hand inside a piece. In her younger years, she had a great talent in painting and ceramics, which shown through in her work. Often she would spend her time playing video games on Nintendo, playing darts with friends, and doing crossword puzzles. In her free time, she would often keep in contact with family and friends by telephone. Throughout her life she enjoyed collecting clowns, and as of the last few years developed a collection of "Just the Right" shoes. For all who knew her, the Christmas season was her favorite time of the year. Whenever Bobby Vinton came on the radio, you would see her singing along with him. She was a member of St. Pius X Church for the last 20 years.

Bonnie is also survived by her nephews, Jason (Michele) Borich of Sugar Hill, Ga., Nick Kapsa of Fall River, Mass., Dustin Kapsa of Chicago, Ill., Drew Borich of South Bend and Kerry Zielinski of South Bend; a niece, Leslie Zielinski of Indianapolis, Ind.; and by a great-niece, Anna of Sugar Hill, Ga.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 4, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish vigil will be held at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, in St. Pius X Catholic Church in Granger, where friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
