Oct. 30, 1945 - Jul. 15, 2012

SOUTH BEND - Richard (Rick) F. Michels II, 66, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 15th, with his beloved wife and best friend of over 44 years, Terry (nee Snider) beside him.

Rick was the second of six children born to the late Richard F. and Berniece (Harris) Michels on October 30, 1945, in South Bend, IN. He was a 1963 graduate of John Adams High School and went on to graduate from Purdue University in 1969. While there, he met Terry, charming her with his quick wit and ongoing antics.

They are the proud and loving parents of Anne Ness, Jay (Julie) Michels and Katie (Juan) Lopez; and grandchildren, Emily, Arianna and Ryan. He is survived by his sister, Betty Ann (Francis) Holden; and brothers, Bill (Diane), Bobby (Dawn), Jeff (Kimber) and Dan (Nance); as well as many nieces and nephews.

Rick began his career path as a teacher in Lafayette, IN, and continued in Public Utilities for the City of Logansport, IN. He relocated to Maryland with his family in 1981, and eventually began a career in chemical sales spanning 25 years. Rick and Terry pursued their dream of opening an old-fashioned ice cream shop, and opened the Queen City Creamery and Deli in 2002 in Cumberland, MD, where you could find him dancing down the aisles to the jukebox or bantering from behind the counter as the original QCC soda jerk.

A memorial Mass and reception will be offered on July 19th at 3 pm at the SS Peter & Paul Shrine, Cumberland, MD. Donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.
