MISHAWAKA - Carol Suzanne "Sue" Shanafelt, 65, residing in Mishawaka, IN, passed away at 6:00 p.m. Monday, March 7th, in the Emergency Room at St. Vincent's Heart Center, Indianapolis. She was born July 1, 1945, in South Bend, a daughter of Elmer L. and Ernestine M. (Stegmann) Shanafelt, and had lived in this area all of her life. She graduated from John Adams High School, class of 1963. Sue retired from Indiana Bell Telephone as an engineer following 28 years of employment. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Plymouth, and was active with several Women's Bowling Leagues in South Bend. She was inducted into the Bowlers Hall of Fame, and served as president of WBA. She was also a member of Telephone Pioneers. Sue is survived by three sisters, Barbara (Raymond) Cole of Tyner, Trudie (Lavern) Horvarter of LaPaz and Paula (Douglas) Johns of Newport, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Robert L. Shanafelt and Randall J. Shanafelt. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 12, in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. Steven J. Resner, pastor of Calvary Lutheran Church, will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, where she will be laid to rest with her mother. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park Chapel. Expressions of sympathy on behalf of Sue Shanafelt may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church, 1314 North Michigan Street, Plymouth, IN 46563.
