Albert G. Zornig

May 26, 1949 - Sept. 6, 2007

SOUTH BEND - Albert G. Zornig, 58, of South Bend, died peacefully in his home on September 6, after a valiant battle with a long illness. Albert was born May 26, 1949, in South Bend, to the union of Albert C. and Virginia Zornig.

He was a lifelong resident of the South Bend area. Survivors include his mother, Virginia Zornig of South Bend; sisters, Carole (Pat) Niven of South Bend, and Cheri (Bill) James of Elkhart; along with sons, Steven (Teresa) Zornig of South Bend, Brian (Marsha) Zornig of East Bend, North Carolina, Alexander Zornig of Elkhart; and daughter, Alisa Zornig of Mishawaka.

Albert is also survived by his two grandchildren, Cody and Sydney. Albert was preceded in death by his father, Albert C., and his brother Fred. Known for his charm, quick wit and loyalty, Albert also leaves behind many close friends. Of special mention are Paulette Clark and Mike Sulfrank, both of whom stood unwavering by his side as he fought his illness.

Albert spent most of his career in construction sales, specializing in the door and window segments of the industry. Over his work life, Albert established a strong reputation for honesty and reliability and counted many of his clients and associates among his closest friends. His zest for life was exemplified when spending time golfing or fishing with family and friends, and Tuesday night Euchre at the Pub was a staple for many years.

The family would like to thank our Hospice nurse, Tina, as well as our caregivers, Julie and Tiana for their excellent and loving care. Dad was an inspiration to us all as he faced his illness with bravery, dignity and resilience.

Friends may call in the Bubb Funeral Chapel from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, September 10, with the memorial service to follow at 6:00 p.m., with Rev. Kenneth Peterson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Ct., South Bend, Indiana 46637 or to the American Cancer Society.
