James Carl Piper
March 11, 1945 – July 17, 2000
James C. Piper, 55, of 104 Jones Street, Dowagic, Mich., died after a short illness at 11:47 p.m. on Monday, July 17, in the Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo, Mich.
He was born on March 11, 1945, in South Bend, Ind., to James C. and Anna (Hellock) Piper.
James is survived by a daughter, Glenyce Piper, and a son, Travis Piper, both of Dowagiac. He is also survived by two aunts, Alma Axtmann and Bea Smith, both of Sun City Center, Fla., and by several cousins.
James taught adult education in Dowagiac. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of Vietnam. He belonged to a chess club in South Bend, and was also a member of the Central Electric Railfans’ Association. He was a graduate of John Adams High School in South Bend and of Indiana University.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 20, in the Connelly Funeral Home, Cassopolis. Officiating will be Pastor David Weiss, pastor at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Cassopolis. The family will receive friends from two hours before the service.
