Charlie G. Watkins, 57, beloved son, brother, husband, father and papa passed away suddenly on Monday, March 8, in his residence.

Mr. Watkins graduated from John Adams High School in 1964, and then enlisted in the United States Air Force. He retired from the United States Air Force in 1990 after more than 26 years of dedicated service. Charlie's career began at Wurtsmith Air Force Base, Mich., after enlisting and when he retired, he was also serving at WAFB once again. Charlie was vice president of the Kasual Social Club, supported various military causes and had been a Columbus, Ohio, area resident for more than 10 years.

Charlie was born on May 5, 1946 in Juilette, Ga., to Eugene and Addie Jo, who survive, and moved to South Bend, Ind. at the age of five. Mr. Watkins was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanette Watkins.

On June 19, 1970, he was united in marriage to Wanpen (Noy) Taomeesil, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Varee J. and husband, Grant Johnson Jr. of Clinton, Md., and Pranee J. and husband, LeAndre McFadgen of Cincinnati, Ohio; a son, Phillip E. Watkins of Columbus; two sisters, Alice and Joseph Ivey of Montgomery, Ala., and Lucille Watkins of South Bend; three nephews, Gary T. Watkins, Christopher and Keith Ivey; and four grandchildren along with numerous other cousins, relatives and friends.

Charlie had a love of bowling and was most happy among his friends. He also enjoyed his annual party, but spending time with his family was of utmost importance to him. He was a very caring and giving person and would go out of his way to make sure that someone was cared for or received something they needed. He will be greatly missed by all family and friends.

Services for Mr. Charlie G. Watkins will be held on Saturday, March 13, in the First AME Zion Church, 801 N. Eddy St., South Bend. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will follow funeral service at Highland Cemetery.

The Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
