NETTLETON – Bobby Joe Butler, 85, longtime Nettleton resident, died Thursday, April 7, 2016, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after an extended illness. Bob was born on Feb. 17, 1931, in Itawamba County to the late John Marion and Alma Lee Culver Butler. As a teenager, he moved to the South Bend, Indiana area and graduated from John Adams High School there. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a Military Police, later honorably discharged. Bob had a 20-year career at U.S. Rubber in Mishawaka, Indiana before relocating in late l969 to the Nettleton area. In 1970, he began working at Day Brite Lighting Company retiring in 1993 as a line supervisor. While at Day Brite, Bob took classes at Itawamba and became certified in AC/Refrigeration as well. He was a master gardener and an avid football fan especially Notre Dame where he became a regular usher at the Fighting Irish games while living in South Bend. He enjoyed seeing both Ole Miss and Mississippi State play. His children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren provided him much joy and happiness.

Per Bob's request, there will be no public visitation or service. He will be interred at Liberty Cemetery near Nettleton in a private immediate family only service in the Butler family plot near his parents. Holland Funeral Directors, Nettleton Chapel is entrusted with arrangements. 

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Wanda Butler of Nettleton; three daughters, Barbara Jo Hamilton (Bill) of Nettleton; Mary Lee Walden (Jerry) of Wren and Mona Lisa Castille (Frank) of Griffin, Georgia; a son, James Michael Butler of South Bend, Indiana; five grandchildren, Jason Hamilton (Jennifer) of Pascagoula, Mississippi, Joseph Hamilton (Raven) of Nettleton, Mississippi, Amy Bing of Tupelo, Mississippi, Caity Hodges of Griffin, Georgia and Nikki Dennis (Quentin) of Memphis, Tennessee; eight great-grandchildren, Kobi, Charli, Audrey, Laynie, Makenley, Maddox, Julian and Jakson; a sister, Jerri Ellis of Decatur, Alabama; two nieces, Mandy Simmons and Angelia Butler Hanna and a nephew, Cory Ebert. He was preceded in death by his special parents and siblings; Edward Leon, Harold Eugene, Archie Olen Butler and Mona Rea Koerber.
