ELKHART - Robert D. Demler, 81, of Elkhart, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2016 at Elkhart General Hospital. He was born June 16, 1934 in South Bend to the late Charles & Thelma (Hills) Demler.

 

On July 2, 1955 in Mishawaka he married Carol M. Olds. She survives along with three children, Charles (Loretta) Demler of Carmel, IN, Judy (Ken) Roscoe of Elkhart and Bill (Sherry) Demler of Niles; four grandchildren, Ryan Demler, Rachael Demler, Tanis Demler and Camron Demler; three and great-grandchildren, Braden, Owen and Liam. He was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Womack.

 

Bob graduated in 1953 form South Bend Adams High School. He was a member and past president of the South Bend Valleyaires Barbershop Choir and a member of the AMA Michiana chapter. He was an avid Notre Dame fan, enjoyed riding his Harley and loved to fish. Bob helped build the Indiana Toll Road and worked in maintenance for the toll road. He retired from the teamsters as a truck driver and after his retirement he worked part time as a bus driver at Disney World in Florida.

 

In keeping with his wishes cremation will take place and a celebration of life service will be private with family and friends at a later date.

 

Elkhart Cremation Services is entrusted with his arrangements. Memorial contributions may be given to the Barbershop Harmony Society, 110 7th Ave. North, Nashville, TN 37203.
