Ruth Marie Dishon (Wade) - Class Of 1942

Ruth Marie Dishon (Wade)

Adams 1942 Ruth Marie (Dishon) Wade

Feb. 22, 1924 - July 10, 2016

SOUTH BEND - Ruth Marie Wade, at age 92, died peacefully after an illness in Sacred Heart Hospital, Springfield, Oregon, on Sunday, July 10, 2016. She is survived by her youngest son, Kerry Glenn Wade, of Springfield, Oregon, who cared for her in her last years; a grandson, Derek Wyndel Wade, of Arlington Heights, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Lillian Rose Wade and Tannum William Wade, of Port Orchard, Washington; and her brother, William Dreger, of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

A beloved grandson, Thomas Hampton Wade, age 35, preceded her in death in March 2016; as did two sons, Wyn Craig Wade, of South Bend, Indiana, died 2006; and Monte Lee Wade, died 1965; and her husband, and first and only love, Wyndel C. Wade, who died 1976.

Ruth was born in Detroit, Michigan, to William Pohl and Amanda Zelmer Pohl, both refugees from the Bolshevik revolution. After her birth mother died, Ruth was lovingly raised by Monte and Sarah Dishon of River Park in South Bend, Indiana.

Ruth served patients as a financial counselor at Memorial Hospital of South Bend for 13 years until she retired in 1989. She was also proud of being in the first graduating class of John Adams High School, South Bend; an ardent New Dealer Democrat all her adult life; and a fan of The Fighting Irish.

According to Ruth's wishes, remains will be buried alongside her husband, Wyndel, at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Mishawaka, Indiana.

Ruth was raised in a house on the corner of 23d and Pleasant St. in River Park.  She was about 18 years older than me as I was born in 1942, her Adams matriculation year.  She was always a very pleasant person as were all the members of her family.  I knew both her sons, Wyn and Monte, and played with them as we were growing up in the neightborhood in my elementary school years.  I might add that the house next to them where my family was living had been the house my dad was born in and lived in with his 10 brothers and sisters.  I didn't know Monte Wade had died so early and was sorry to hear that.  RIP Ruth.
