Robert Louis Batten - Class Of 1958 VIEW PROFILE

Robert Louis Batten

Information from Rebecca Karen Ullery (Central) 02/02/2020  JFC

Sharon and I were best friends all through school. She married and had 2 sons and one daughter. Only her oldest son remains in the South Bend area. Another son is in New York and the daughter is in Florida. Sharon was preceded in death less than a year before she passed by her husband of over 50 years, Robert Batten.

Robert was married to Sharon Lee Weaver Central 1960

Robert Louis Batten, 78, of South Bend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at home after a long illness. Bob, as most knew him, was born on October 17, 1938 at home, the son of the late Clyde and Alberta (Chambers) Batten.

On October 3, 1964 he married Sharon Weaver. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sharon; their children, Darin Batten of Goshen, Craig Batten (Meghan) of South Hempstead, NY and Dawn Batten of Dunnellon, FL; and five grandchildren, Matthew Batten, Jeffery Fisher, Jason Fisher, Ashlynn Batten and Hunter Batten.

He is also survived by a brother, David Batten of South Bend. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Batten. Bob proudly served as Commander of The Sons of The American Legion Squadron 161 in Mishawaka for several years and was on the Post’s Color Guard for many years as well.

Bob worked in the auto glass industry, starting his career with V. Graves Auto Glass in 1965 and retiring with the Glass Doctor after 45 years, even as the company changed owners four different times.

While Bob was not an outwardly religious man, the family would like to think that the following passages are appropriate here:

From the First Epistle of Paul to the Thessalonians – Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14.

And also from The Gospel according to St. John – Jesus said, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?” John 14:1-2

Bob, we are sure, has the furniture picked out and is waiting for the next family gathering. He is now with all his family and friends who have been waiting for him. Let us sing not of sadness but of joy for he is now with the Lord.

No formal visitation or services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Grace Hospice of Indiana, 5838 West Brick Road, Suite 101, South Bend, IN 46628. Palmer Funeral Home – Guisinger Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
