James P. Considine - Class Of 1951 VIEW PROFILE

James P. Considine

James P. Considine

Aug. 21, 1933 - Jun. 8, 2012

James P. Considine, 78, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2012. He was born James Patrick Considine on August 21, 1933 to Kenneth L. and Mildred Elizabeth (Woolf) Considine. His parents and his only sister preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Julie Whelan Considine; two sons, Blaise (Donna Sansone) of Columbia, MD and Devin (Dawn Napieralski) of Mishawaka; as well as two daughters, Meghan (Denis O'Meara) of White Plains, NY and Cecily of Waleska, GA. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Aidan and Nora Considine of Maryland, Brendan, Kathleen, Margaret and Maryclare O'Meara of New York, and Garrett Considine of Mishawaka.

Jim was very active in the volunteer community. In younger years, he even ran for public office on the Republican ticket (he lost, of course)! He continued being an active Republican until his death, in recent years, helping out by delivering absentee ballots on election days. In later years, he limited his volunteer activity, but still remained a Director of the Scholarship Foundation of St. Joseph County and was a tour guide at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart.

Jim graduated from John Adams High School with the Class of 1951, and graduated from Georgetown University in 1955. He attended all but one of his Georgetown reunions over the years, and interviewed prospective G.U. students for Georgetown admissions. He followed his basketball Hoyas faithfully through thick and thin! He also kept busy as an Adams alum, particularly with his classmates from 1951. He edited a class newsletter a couple of times a year, and made most of the monthly luncheons of the reunion planning group that continued to meet even between reunions.

Jim's favorite activity was probably his work at St. Matthew Cathedral, training and mentoring the altar servers since 2000. He claimed that working with the young people (6th through 12th grades) "kept him young." In addition to the servers, he was a lector and an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist at St. Matthew.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm Monday, June 11, 2012 in St. Matthew Cathedral. The celebrant will be his friend, Msgr. Michael Heintz, rector/pastor of St. Matthew. Graveside services and burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from noon - 1:00 pm in the church prior to mass. Palmer Funeral Home - Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Donations in Jim's memory may be made to the Bishop Crowley Education Fund at St. Matthew or to the Scholarship Foundation of St. Joseph County, 3515 N. Main Street, Suite 2, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Online condolences may be sent to the Considine family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
