Sarah Lafollette (Poyser)

Sarah Mae Poyser

Apr. 15, 1929 - July 8, 2018

SOUTH BEND, IN - Sarah Mae Poyser was born in Warsaw, Indiana, on April 15, 1929. Her father Howard “Red” LaFollette and mother Mildred (Longfellow) moved to River Park when Red got a job at Studebaker. Sarah, who was known to all as Sue, attended John Adams High School, where she met her husband, Richard “Dick” Poyser. They were married just after high school; for a time Sue worked for Dinkolow and Christman Public Accountants. A homemaker for years, Sue later was a Secretary in the South Bend School Corporation. She was a member of Eastern Star and River Park United Methodist Church. Sue enjoyed singing in the church choir and participating in her church's prayer chains, and she delighted in her family. She is preceded in death by her father in 1977, her mother in 1987, and husband Dick on May 19, 2007. Survivors include her four children, Rick, Karen (Marc), Jim (Patricia), and Pam (Allen), 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to her son Jim's non-profit organization, Earth Charter Indiana (earthcharterindiana.org) or to the River Park Food Pantry. On Saturday, July 14, a visitation will be held at River Park United Methodist Church, 920 S. 23rd Street, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a service from 1-2 p.m.
