Joseph Michael Dickey
July 12, 1941 - March 8, 1999
Joseph Michael Dickey, 57, of New York, New York, suffered a heart attack and died on Monday, March 8, while on vacation in Key West, Florida.
Born on July 12, 1941, in South Bend, Ind., to Floyd M. and Margaret A. Dickey, he was a graduate of South Bend John Adams High School and Indiana University, Bloomington.
He started his career in 1964 as a counselor in the Project STEP (South Bend Training for Employment Program) with the South Bend Community School Corporation. While in South Bend, he was employed by various organizations, including the YMCA Cooper Recreation Center, Sullivan Associates and South Bend Urban League. A resident of New York City for more than 20 years, he was Senior Executive Director of medical records for the Transit Authority of the city of New York.
He is survived by a sister, Barbara A. Gilbert of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two brothers, Dr. Stephen F. Dickey of Tampa, Florida and Dr. Keith W. Dickey of Edwardsville, Illinois; two aunts, Frances Moody of Rochester, Ind. and Mary (Betty) Freeman of Lapeer, Mich.; an uncle, Stephen Freeman of South Bend; and by several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at Riverside Church in New York City.
