Patsy Ann Garlough

May 22, 1939 - Aug. 15, 2002

MIDDLETON - Patsy R. Garlough, age 63, of Middleton, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, August 15, 2002, after a seven year battle with breast cancer.

Patsy was born on May 22, 1939, in South Bend, Indiana. She married high school sweetheart, Donald Garlough, on July 13, 1963, after both had received Bachelors degrees from Indiana University. Subsequently, Patsy worked as an elementary school teacher in the Chicago Heights area. Two years later, she and Don moved to Joliet, Illinois and started a family.

The Garloughs then moved to Madison in 1981, and remained there until 1991. They returned in 2001, during which time Patsy was the primary caretaker for Don, who battled ALS. Patsy was an avid tennis player, an enthusiastic supporter of Indiana Hoosiers basketball, and unknown to many, a talented artist. She was a concerned community member who volunteered her time at food pantries, church functions and as an English as a second language tutor.

Patsy also enjoyed fishing, golf, gardening, listening to folk music, and spending time with her family, with whom she was very close. Family holidays were a great source of joy to Patty, especially time spent preparing for the events with her sister Beverly.

Patsy is survived by her sisters, Beverly Coverdale of Mequon, and Betty Moss of Santa Anna, California; her brother, William Rupert of South Bend, Indiana; two daughters, Carrie Garlough of Milwaukee, and Christine Garlough of Madison; sons-in-law, Dhavan Shah of Madison; two grandchildren, Gabriel Garlough-Shah and Isabel Garlough Shah, both of Madison, and several more devoted friends and family members.

Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, William Isadore Rupert, and Virginia Mae Rupert, and her beloved husband, Don. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 19, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the CRESS FUNERAL HOME: 3610 Speedway Drive, Madison. Friends may call one hour before the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the UW Comprehensive Cancer Care Center (co Ann Johnson), 600 Highland Ave., K4658, Madison, 53792.

A beautiful woman, loving wife, devoted mother, sister, grandmother, and friend; Patsy is once again with her true love, Donald.
