Robert Ward Severeid, age 80, residing in Granger, Indiana passed away peacefully at home on May 17, 2020 surrounded by family.


Robert was born on September 30, 1939 in Warsaw, Indiana to the late Ward I. and Grace (Hall) Severeid. On November 3, 1961 he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley A. (Rossner) Severeid, who survives.

Along with his loving wife, Shirley, of 58½ years, Robert is survived by his son, Robert “Bob” Severeid of South Bend; two daughters, Debi (John) Grecco of Zionsville, Indiana and Lori Willard of South Bend. Robert was also blessed with seven grandchildren, Matthew (Lori) Grecco, Courtney Severeid, Ashley (Denny) McNamara, Brittany (John) Jameson, Joshua (Mel) Severeid, Christopher Grecco (Sarah Little) and Tyler Severeid. Eight great grandchildren, Christian Nemeth, Brayden Nemeth, Dennis McNamara, Lilian Grecco, Abigail McNamara, Nicholas Grecco, Brylei Stevenson and Faith Severeid. A half sister Phyllis Sadler of Mallard, Iowa, sister Janet Szabo of Osceola, brothers William and Thomas Severeid of Mishawaka; and his sister-in-law, Jeanine Severeid of Niles. Two brothers, Donald and James, preceded Robert in death.

Robert had a long employment career starting at Cole & Associates where he was a draftsman. He combined work and hobby while working for Ozzie’s Automotive. He continued and grew his love of technology with Adressograph-Multigraph where he repaired “point of sale” equipment. He also worked for Radonics where he scanned homes and properties for harmful Radon.

Robert had many hobbies including woodworking, construction and cars. The latter showing in the years with Ozzie he raced dragsters. He traveled the Country with Shirley racing and won a National Championship in “B” modified sport.

But Robert’s love was Notre Dame Athletics. He was an usher for home football games, retiring after 44 years. In his 44 years, Robert only missed 4 home games. At the time of his retirement he was a Stadium Supervisor. He was also involved with the College Football Hall of Fame from day 1 in South Bend until the Hall closed and moved to Atlanta. Robert built most of the displays that were in the Hall. He also could be seen driving the Hall of Fame RV to an array of sporting events including many NCAA National Championship events.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 20, 2020 at Palmer Funeral Home – River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Family will be receiving friends from 4-7 pm. Private family service will be immediately following at 7 pm. Pastor Scott Bowie of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ., 915 N. Ironwood Drive, South Bend, IN. officiating. Due to the current Covid-19 Pandemic, a Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends at a later date.
