Cathy Goldstein (Burnside) - Class Of 1967 VIEW PROFILE

Cathy Goldstein (Burnside)

Cathy I. (Goldstein) Burnside

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Cathy I. (Goldstein) Burnside on December 18, 2023, in South Bend, IN. Cathy passed away peacefully while in her home at 74 years old. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, and caring sister.

Cathy was born May 25, 1949, in South Bend, IN, the daughter of Raymond and Adeline (Jaffee) Goldstein. She graduated from Adams High School in 1967, where she met her high school sweetheart and future husband of 54 years, Gregory Burnside. They were married on June 6, 1969, in South Bend. She had her only child, Steven Burnside in 1987. They were a tight knit family that immensely enjoyed life together and, alongside their many standard poodles, created innumerable delightful memories.

She had a vibrant personality, radiating kindness and warmth wherever she went. She loved to laugh and have fun, was never scared to talk to a stranger, and truly cared about everyone in her life. She enjoyed spending time and keeping up with family, adventures on walks or at the park with the dogs, and reading and writing fiction. She had numerous friends, including various neighbors, at the dog park, at the YMCA where she swam for many years, in her lunch bunch group, and several others she met throughout her life.

A lifelong bookkeeper and administrative professional, Cathy was meticulous in her craft. She worked for a variety of local businesses, including law firms, architects, home builders, South Bend Orthopedics, South Bend Racquet Club, and First Bank and Trust. She was also the secretary for her homeowners association for many years and volunteered at a variety of local groups, including many of her son’s sports and school events.

Cathy leaves a wonderful legacy with immediate and extended family, whom she cherished. She is survived by her husband Gregory and son Steven, both of South Bend, IN; by a loving sister, JoAnn Bosell, of Houston, TX, nephews Sam (Pilar) Bosell of Lima, Peru and Ben Bosell of Houston, TX, and great-niece and nephews, Isabella, Bode, and Mateo. She is also survived by brother-in-law Larry (Sharon) of Lakeville, IN, niece and nephew Lindsay (Mark) Renshaw of Gainesville, FL, Chris (Tifanie) Burnside of Porter, IN, and great-niece and nephews Sydney, Jax, and Isaiah. Additionally, sister-in-law Jan (Mark) Fish of Mount Pleasant, SC, niece and nephew Katelyn (James) of Old Hickory, TN and Andrew (Madalyn) of Mount Pleasant, SC, and great-niece and nephews Elizabeth, Fisher, and Hunter.

Special thanks to Dr. Bilal Ansari, Beth Mondschein, and staff at Michiana Hematology Oncology, along with the Center for Hospice, including Katie, Barb, and other staff and nurses, for their invaluable dedication, support and care over the last few years.
