Robert Scott Liggett

R. Scott Liggett

February 9, 1949 ~ November 8, 2022 (age 73)

R. Scott Liggett passed away in his Mishawaka home on November 8, 2022 after a battle with esophageal cancer. Scott was born to Doris and Robert V. Liggett on February 9, 1949. Both parents and brother, Gary preceded him in death.

Scott is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathy; his pride and joy, son, S. Weston (Wes) Liggett; cherished daughter-in-law, Sierra; and their three perfect grandchildren, Eleanor, Sam, and Meina; brothers, Brian and Jeff Liggett of El Centro, CA; sister, Claudia Hook of Estes Park, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Scott is a graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington. It was there that he met Kathy in Genetics class and their love for the sciences and each other began. He went on to earn a master’s degree and apply that knowledge to a nearly 50 year long career in the environmental consulting field in both private industry and governmental positions endeavoring to contribute to a better environment.

Scott was an active Boy Scout leader for ten years assisting scouts in pursuit of the coveted Eagle Scout rank. His own son, Wes attained the rank and later served his country as a U.S. Marine in combat deployments.

Scott was big on detailed reporting and data collection, but he had a creative side too. Everyone who ventured into the Liggett basement was in awe of his amazing projects. He crafted a realistic kid-sized version of an A10 cockpit complete with gears, dials, and a seat for the pilot. Equally over the top is a doll house, a very accurate replication of the grandkid’s own home complete with true room colors and furniture.

Scott earned the respect and friendship of everyone he met. To his cherished grandchildren, he was called “Guppy”. To his wife, he was “the nicest guy on the planet”. Everyone that had the good fortune to know him would agree.

In lieu of memorial contributions, Scott’s wish is for everyone to give their kids and grandkids the Liggett family hug; form a circle, put hands on each other’s shoulders, and call out “FAMILY HUG”.

No formal services are planned but a celebration of this great guy’s life will be held at a later date.
