Martin D. Butler, 73, of South Bend, walked through the gates of Heaven Tuesday, December 15, 2020. Marty was born in South Bend on June 3, 1947, the son of (the late) Roland A. and Maxine (Saberniac) Butler. He graduated from John Adams High School in 1966. He was a Vietnam veteran who served his country proudly with the U.S. Air Force. On August 30, 1969, he married Judy (Janowiak) Butler in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church; she survives after 51 years of marriage.

Marty retired from Zolman Tire & Auto Care. He was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church and was an avid Notre Dame football fan. He enjoyed playing euchre with family & friends, fishing, and an occasional trip to the casino to try his luck. Marty was devoted to and loved his family foremost, but he also possessed a profound love for his country. Marty was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Roland “Pete” Butler, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Judy and their children: daughter, Ann Marie (Karl) Kloc of McCordsville and son, Scott Butler of Monticello GA; their grandchildren, Drew Walker, Evan Kloc, and Jillian Kloc, all of McCordsville; his sister, Sue (Louis) Balbo of Duncan, SC and his sister-in-law, Patricia Butler Maggert of Mishawaka. Due to the pandemic, the Mass of Christian Resurrection was celebrated privately in St. Monica Catholic Church in Mishawaka, followed by Military Honors.
