Michael J Skees

Michael J. Skees, 68, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at his home after battling complications from Parkinson's disease. Michael was born on February 19, 1947 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Charles and Betty Skees. Michael's survivors include the love of his life, wife Mary Jane Skees. They were married on May 21, 1966. Also surviving are his two daughters, Michelle (Jason) Skeels and Christine (Daniel) Clevenger both of South Bend, Indiana. Michael is survived by one son, Brian Skees (Sharae Curry) of South Bend, Indiana. Michael is survived by six grandchildren, Michael Miller, Cody Oswalt, Samantha Miller, Brittany Conley, Andrea Clevenger, and Danny Clevenger, and 4 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Peggy Szymanski (David) and Sharon Bates (Larry). Along with Michael's parents he was also preceded in death by one brother, Donald Skees. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr. on Thursday, February 11, 2016. A celebration of life will be held at the Kaniewski Funeral Home on Friday, February 12, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. Michael was employed as a mechanic for 30 years and was also an entrepreneur. He was a successful race car driver for many years at the South Bend Motor Speedway. He also enjoyed relaxing on the lake fishing. Michael was a natural at woodworking and home improvement projects. He also enjoyed working outdoors and gardening. Michael also enjoyed family gatherings and the inevitable poker game and fine cigar. Memorial contributions may be made to The Michael J.
