URBANA – Betty Jane Daube, 83, of Urbana passed away at 12:10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. The family will receive visitors at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Road, Urbana, with a memorial service following.

Mrs. Daube was born Dec. 26, 1924, in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of John Henry and Margaret Murrmann Shroff.

She married Robert Vincent Daube on April 2, 1955, in South Bend, Ind. He survives.

She is also survived by sons Brian Douglas Daube of Mahomet and Steven Robert Daube of Hinsdale; daughters Gail Ann 

Chaplin of Delavan, Wis., and Lynn D. Sandberg of Long Beach, Miss.; sister Margaret Lee Carter of Torrance, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Daube graduated from Indiana University with a degree in elementary education and held teaching posts in South Bend, Ind., Jeffersonville, Ind., and Fond du Lac, Wis.

She was part of the administrative staff of Parkland College, Champaign, for 18 years, retiring in 1994.

She was a former member of Grace Baptist Church, Urbana, the Indiana University Alumni Association, the Delta Zeta sorority, the Fond du Lac Sailing Club and the Commodore Decatur Yacht Club.

She was very fond of sailing, birds, music and dancing. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Illinois Chapter, P.O. Box 806457, Chicago, IL 60680-4125, or the Parkland College Foundation, 2500 W. Bradley Ave., Champaign.

I remember Betty so well from our days at Parkland. She was such a bright, witty lady. I'm so sorry to hear of her passing.
