SOUTH BEND - Carolyn A. "Lynn" Metzger, 89, of South Bend, passed away at 2:20 p.m. Monday, December 16, 2013, in the residence of her son, Larry. Lynn was born May 27, 1924, in South Bend, to the late Harry H. and Mae F. Parker, and was a lifetime area resident.

On August 17, 1946, in South Bend, as Carolyn Ann Dibble, she married F. Dale Metzger, who preceded her in death March 27, 2001. She is survived by her sons, Lawrence D. Metzger and Bruce H. Metzger (Jeanie), both of South Bend, and Douglas F. Metzger (Helen) of Monticello, IN; two grandchildren, Becky Ehrgott (Chris) and James D. Metzger, both of Indianapolis, IN; and her sisters, Mae Floretta Brunner of Madison, NJ, and Joan L. Kizer of Warsaw, IN.

Lynn loved Indiana University and especially IUSB where she received her BS Business degree in 1972 and her MSBA degree in 1975. She was involved in the student accounting club and student government while at IUSB. She was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma Honorary Business Fraternity as a student and also taught classes at the IUSB Business School. She was the first president of the IUSB Alumni Association and received the Distinguished Alumni Award in Business and Economics in 1993. Her children and grandchildren are graduates of IU, and she is a life member of the Woodburn Guild in Bloomington.

Lynn was a managing partner with Metzger, Mancini & Lackner. She was the first female partner in the area and first practicing female CPA in South Bend. She was a member of Beta Alpha Psi Honorary Accounting Fraternity. She was involved in a number of accounting and business organizations including IMA (president 1978-79), AICPA, IN CPA Board of Directors, and American Women's Society of Certified Public Accountants Board of Directors. She was also involved in many other area organizations including the United Way, March of Dimes, Hearing and Speech Center, and the Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, and a proud graduate of John Adams High School where she was a co-founder and Past President of the Alumni Association and was active in many alumni activities. She also had been a 50-year member of St. Joseph Chapter Order of Eastern Star, and had volunteered at Memorial Hospital for many years.

The family profoundly appreciates and thanks the caregivers from Harbor Light Hospice, Senior 1 Care, Home Instead, and other special individuals and friends who helped with Lynn's care over the past five years, and especially the past six months. According to her wishes, Lynn's body was donated to the Indiana University Medical School. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
