Betty J. Wachs

Betty J. Wachs, age 88, of Edwardsburg, MI passed away at 12:45 pm Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Tanglewood Trace, Mishawaka, IN. She was born March 31, 1924 in South Bend to the late Carlton E. and Ruth M. (Fortin) Kindig and has lived in this area all of her life. For eighteen years Betty and her husband wintered in Bradenton, FL.
On April 25, 1943 at the River Park United Methodist Church, South Bend, Betty married Robert J. Wachs Sr. who preceded her in death on July 21, 2000. Survivors include her son, Robert J. (Paula) Wachs of Granger, IN, two grandchildren, Robert J. "RJ" Wachs III of Fishers, IN, Courtney Wachs of Granger, a sister, Virginia Rearick of South Bend, and two brothers, Carlton E. (Sylvia) Kindig of Mishawaka and Thomas S. (Gloria) Kindig of Hillsdale, MI. One sister, Joan Erickson, preceded Betty in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, at the Palmer Funeral Home, River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN 46615. Rev. Tom Thews will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 12:00 until time of service.
Betty was a Sigma Phi Gamma – Gamma Lambda Chapter member, and a lifetime member of River Park United Methodist Church. She spent many years volunteering in today's United Health Service's Speech and Hearing organization. Betty graduated from the first graduating class at John Adams High School.
