SOUTH BEND - John Dillon Patterson, 90, residing in South Bend, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at the Milton Home, South Bend. John was born on September 15, 1924 in South Bend, IN to the late Dillon J. and Marie (Friedmann) Patterson.

John was in the first graduating class of Adams High School. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering. He also received a MBA from Loyola University. John honorably served our country in the United States Army during World War II.

On September 3, 1949 he was united in marriage to Ruby M. Simmons who preceded him in death on October 5, 2014. John and Ruby lived in Austria, Germany, Illinois, Michigan and New Jersey before returning to South Bend in 1991. They traveled the world extensively over the next fifteen years. John was an avid dog lover and had many dogs through the years that he spoiled unconditionally. His last dog, Mitzy, adopted when John was 83 years old kept him quite active, and was the bane of Ruby's existence! John was a member of Saint Pius X Catholic Church, Granger.

John is survived by his daughter, Marianne "Ahnie" (Mike) Costin of Granger; son, John W. (Donna) Patterson of Hartford, CT; and three grandchildren, Shayla Costin of South Bend, MIchael Costin and Kelsee Costin, both of Granger. John was proceeded in death by his parents, Dillon and Marie Patterson, his wife, Ruby Patterson and his sister, Ann Helmen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Saint Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, IN 46530, where friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services. Graveside services will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
