Harold E. Whiteman, 76, Rolling Prairie, died Wednesday (Oct. 11, 2000) at LaPorte Hospital.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, New Carlisle. Burial will be in Rolling Prairie Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

He was born April 1, 1924, in Marion County, Ind., to Nurr M. and Bessie Smith Whiteman. On April 26, 1947, he married Ann Schreiner, who survives.

Survivors also include two daughters, Lori (Branson) Whiteman-Summerfield, South Bend, and Julie Whiteman, Rolling Prairie; one son, Michael Whiteman, South Bend; 10 grandchildren, John and Keith Pierce, Jim, David, Crystal and George Summerfield, and Brian and Brianna Blake, all of South Bend, and Joellen Whiteman and Jermy Blackburn, both of Rolling Prairie; three sisters, Lois Wilson and Dorothy Kemmerling, both of Mishawaka, Ind., and Virginia Harley, New Port Richie, Fla., and one brother, Max (Alice) Whiteman, Columbus, Ind.

Mr. Whiteman retired in 1989 from Allied Signal after 50 years of service. He was a World War II Navy veteran. An avid sports fan, Mr. Whiteman also enjoyed golf and bowling.
