MISHAWAKA - Nancy J. Starrett, 72, of Mishawaka, died at 11:48 a.m., Friday, July 6th at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka. Nancy was born March 1, 1940 in South Bend to the late Frank and Joyce (Anderson) Aitchison.

Also preceding her in death was a brother, Frank Aitchison III. On June 20, 1959 in South Bend, Nancy married the love of her life, Jerry L. Starrett. Together they shared 53 wonderful years of marriage. Jerry survives along with two daughters, Sheryl (Mike) Heberling of Mishawaka and Kathy Starrett of Portland, OR; one son, Michael Starrett of Mishawaka; six grandchildren, Danny, Ashley, Samantha, Paxton, Dominic and Elizabeth; one great grandson, Collin; one sister, Winnie (Jim) Morris of Omaha, NE; one brother, Jim (Anne) Aitchison of Granger; one sister-in-law, Wilma Aitchison of South Bend and one brother-in-law, Jim Starrett of Estill Springs, TN.

Nancy was a teacher's aid in the Penn-Harris-Madison school system for 30 years. She worked at the Walt Disney School and also the Elm Road School, retiring in 2004. Nancy served as the Worthy Matron for Rainbow (a division of the Order of the Eastern Star) in 1958.

She was a graduate of John Adams High School in South Bend and enjoyed counted cross stitching, bowling, travel and collecting pewter figurines, of which she had a large collection. Most of all, Nancy enjoyed family gatherings and could always be found at any and all events in which her grandchildren were involved.

Visitation for Nancy will be held on Tuesday, July 10th from 4-8 at the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th St., Mishawaka, where the funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Robert Vale will officiate and burial will be in the St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Nephrology, Inc. at Edison Lakes as well as to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of the Intensive Care Unit at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Your care and compassion mean more to us than you will ever know. Memorial donations in memory of Nancy may be made to the Scleroderma Foundation, 300 Rosewood Dr., Suite 105, Danvers, MA 01923 or to the charity of one's choice .
