Christine J. Glassburn, 81 years young, passed away at 11:10 a.m. on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Christine was born on September 9, 1940 in South Bend to the late Samuel & Violet (Brothers) Glassburn. She was raised on Notre Dame Ave and attended John Adams High School graduating in 1958.

Christine is survived by her three daughters, Yvonka Behnke of North Liberty, Laura (Kevin) Schafer of Lakeville and Cora (Robert) Berkery of Monarch Beach, CA; one grand-daughter Geneva Behnke whom she cherished and four step-grandchildren: Alek Schafer of DC, currently deployed in Kuwait. Christine was so very proud of Alek and his service to our country and the man his is today, Josh Schafer, Tori Bennett & Dustin Schafer. Christine is also survived by her sister, Violet McKenna of Knox; sister-in-law Betty Glassburn of South Bend and Helen Glassburn of Russiaville, IN and her brother-in-law, Gary Strong of Plymouth. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Victor Glassburn, Ralph (Elaine) Glassburn, Vern (Elsie) Glassburn, Mary Sharpe, Gail Glassburn, Eva Rogers, Jerry Glassburn, Roy Glassburn and Nancy Strong.

Christine Worked 35 years at Bendix/Honeywell before retiring. She was a UAW Local 9 member and elected Financial Secretary. Christine also played with the Honeywell Golf group. During her retirement she worked part-time at the Print Shop at Innovation Park at Notre Dame where she met so many great friends. Christine served on the board of Girl Scouts for America and also taught computer courses at IUSB for 10 years.

Her love of travel took her to many places including 17 European countries, Iceland, Alaska, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Canada and a train trip across the U.S.A., a Shakespeare festival in Wisconsin and several trips to both her favorite places: Mackinac Island and Sedona AZ.

Christine had a passion for horses from an early age. Her dream of owning horses came true when she purchased her 20-acre farm in North Liberty, and was able to have 4 horses over the years. Sonny and Sassy were the first then her dream of owning a Tennessee Walker came true when she was able to acquire "Prides Fashion Legs" (Babe) and raising Babe's offspring "Threats Chocolate Kiss" (Kissy). Christine enjoyed the quiet and peaceful country living for 28 years.

Christine's last 3 years were spent in a magical place in South Bend; Sommer Square Condo community where she met the most amazing neighbors who became walking, lunching and card playing friends. She enjoyed the activities and camaraderie immensely.

As a long time member of the Elks 235 lodge she spent her time volunteering at bingo, helping with multiple activities and was the hostess on Friday evenings. She adored all her friends and fellow Elks and had a real connection to them all.

A Celebration of Life will be held December 11, 2021 at the Elks 235 Lodge on McKinley Ave. Mishawaka, IN. A service will be held at 11 a.m. where friends and family may visit with the family from 11-3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Christine J. Glassburn may be donated to "GarySinsefoundation.org" or "Americanwildhorsecampagin.org".
