SOUTH BEND - Barbara K. (Leonard) Ahia, 69, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 5:40 a.m. on Thursday, August 5, 2010, in the Ironwood Health & Rehabilitation Center, South Bend. Barbara was born on December 11, 1940, in South Bend, to the late Larry and Ruth (Eller) Leonard.
She graduated from John Adams High School in 1958 and she attended Ball State University. Barbara enjoyed sewing and designing clothing, purses and hats, not only for herself but for her family as well. When it came to her family and friends she loved to play a good game of Liverpool rummy.
Barbara is survived by her son, James K. Ahia III of Houston, TX; one sister, Janet (Ralph) Leonard Heitkamp of South Bend; and one brother, Michael (Linda) Leonard of Grayson, GA; maternal aunt, Betty Lou Brenton of Kokomo; maternal uncle, Roland (Eunice) Eller of Lakeville; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and former husband, James K. Ahia Jr. of Washington State.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 9, 2010, in the St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park-Mausoleum, Granger. Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, South Bend, is assisting the family with arrangements.
