June 16, 1936 - Feb. 29, 2008
STEVENSVILLE - Alice June Pruess, 71, Stevensville, formerly of St. Joseph, passed away in her home on February 29, 2008.

Born on June 16, 1936, to Grace and Harold E. "Doc" Bartels in South Bend, IN, she graduated from John Adams High School. June attended Ball State University, Purdue University and received her bachelor's degree from Michigan State University. She received her masters' degree from Andrews University.

June was a teacher at Benton Harbor High School. She also owned and operated three Diet Centers in South Bend, Niles and New Buffalo.

Funeral services for June will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at 11:00 AM in the United Methodist Peace Temple, Benton Harbor, with Pastor James Stillwell officiating. Visitation will be held at the Dey-Florin Chapel of Florin Funeral Services, St. Joseph, on Tuesday from 6 PM to 8 PM. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend. Pall bearers will be David Pruess, Greg Markert, Alex Tsvetanov, Charles Poole, Brandon Cates, Jerry Clay and Earl "Dick" Pruess.

Memorials in June's name may be made to Methodist Peace Temple, 275 Pipestone Avenue, Benton Harbor, MI 49022; or to Hospice at Home, 4025 Health Park Lane, St. Joseph, MI 49085.

une is survived by her sister, Joanne Bartels of Stevensville, and by her children, Julie (Greg) Markert of St. Joseph, Amy (Alex Tsvetanov) Pruess of Chicago and David (Lani) Pruess of Chicago. June is also survived by her grandchildren, Alexis Markert, Steven Markert and Zoe Pruess.
