SOUTH BEND - Carol A. Zhiss, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away on April 24. She was born and raised in South Bend as the younger of two children for Florence and D.D. (Doc) Gross. She graduated from John Adams High School and then attended Indiana University in Bloomington. Upon leaving school, she joined the family business, Milady Shop. She served in multiple roles during her career including buying and sales.

She was married to Jack Zhiss for 34 years and was widowed in 1993. Carol was a dedicated mother to two children and could always be counted on to attend every sports event and activity. She relocated to Boca Raton Florida in 1994 and enjoyed the weather and an active lifestyle with daily tennis and a vibrant social life with her many snowbird friends. She was especially passionate about Notre Dame football and basketball and followed the Irish consistently. In 2009, she relocated to LaJolla, California.to be close to her daughter's family.

She passed away peacefully with both of her children by her side. She will be profoundly missed by her son Ron (Carolyn) Zhiss of Wheaton, Illinois and daughter Terri (Lorin) Begun of Carlsbad, California. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Daniel, Andrew, Jeremy, Matthew and Jana. She was beloved by her brother, Robert (Ruth) Gross, who preceded her in death earlier this year, Paul (June) Zhiss, a brother-in-law, and her nieces and nephews Michele (Craig) Van Scoyoc, Andrea (Dan) Weber, Debbie (Evan) Lister, Nancy (Gary) Drillings, and Scott (Tricia) Zhiss.

Funeral services will be held in the chapel at the Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, Mishawaka, with Rabbi Eric Siroka officiating. For date and time, please visit www.McGannHay.com.
