Gordon Glen Barclay

Gordon Glen Barclay, 70, residing on Lincoln Way East, Mishawaka, Ind., died at 6:43 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, in the emergency room of Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, after becoming ill at home.
He was born of Scottish descent as the son of the late Ray and Carol (Ketcham) Barclay on Feb. 13, 1932, in South Bend, Ind., and had remained a lifelong resident of the River Park-Mishawaka areas.
Gordon graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington, and served as a school teacher for 25 years, teaching English and coaching. He spent 13 years in the Brandywine Schools. He retired in 1996 from the Westville Correctional Center where he served as the recreational director for eight years. He was a sports enthusiast. He was a two-time recipient of the National Table Tennis & Golf Award. He represented the United States in Europe for table tennis. He served as scout master for Troop #523, South Bend, for many years. He also published a book entitled: "Kaleidoscopic World" your World and Mine in 1969.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, and by a sister, Consuelo Fritz.
He is survived by the many friends he made throughout the years.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. Ed Erskin, pastor of Northway Church of Christ, will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.
