Jayne Ellen Patterson

Jayne Ellen Patterson, 71, passed away early Monday morning, Jan. 26, in her home on South Coquillard Drive in South Bend, Ind.

Jayne was born on Sept. 13, 1932, in Evansville, Ind., to Sara Lucille (Carson) and Merle (Buck) Cecil Davis. She was the second of three children. Her death is preceded by her brother, Richard Carson Davis, and by both her parents.

After graduating from John Adams High School of South Bend in 1950, Jayne attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. After returning home, Jayne worked as a proofreader for the South Bend Tribune. She then married Thomas Joe Patterson of South Bend in 1951.

Jayne worked as a manager at Newmans department store in downtown South Bend and later at Town and Country for several years. She always had a great fashion sense and possessed equal taste. Jayne was also an avid sports fan and was particular to IU basketball. In all her years, you would rarely ever see Jayne without a book in hand. She was knowledgeable on an array of topics, and was always interested in current events and the latest trends.

Jayne is survived by her husband, Thomas; by her sister and best friend, Sandra (Jay) Varga; by her three children, Jodee (James) Kuliesh of Tucson, Ariz., Richard (Kay) Patterson of Mishawaka, Ind., and Kevin (Mimi) of South Bend; by her four grandchildren, Jessica, Christopher, Thomas and Spencer; and by many nephews and nieces.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 31, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue in River Park, with the reception immediately following at American Legion Post 303, 2503 Mishawaka Avenue, also in River Park.

It is Jayne's wish that any memorial contributions be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
