SOUTH BENDDoris Purucker, 77, peacefully entered into her Lord's Heavenly Home on Saturday, January 3, 2009.

Mrs. Purucker, born to Charles and Mary Taylor on November 13, 1931, was an outstanding musician, prolific gardener, and an avid antique collector.

Mrs. Purucker married Ervin F. Purucker on September 22, 1962, in South Bend, Indiana, and together they devotedly raised four children.

Mrs. Purucker's musical accomplishments were as numerous as they were varied. She was well- known for her musical versatility as a professional organist and pianist for over 60 years in the South Bend area and, most recently, at the Buttonwood Bay Church, Sebring, FL. Mrs. Purucker's musical gifts were also utilized throughout her children's school years by providing piano accompaniment for choir concerts, high school commencements, as well as other musical programs. In addition, Mrs. Purucker was a well-known authority on sheet music, giving many presentations.

As a gardener, Mrs. Purucker's gardens were greatly admired and often featured in local garden tours. Another hobby, antique collecting, centered on art pottery in which she was well-versed.

Mrs. Purucker was a passionate supporter of the St. Joseph County, Indiana, Republican Party, and volunteered for several years in a variety of capacities.

In addition to her husband of 46 years, Mrs. Purucker is survived by her sister, Mrs. Margie Canfield (David) of South Bend, and her children, Charles Purucker of Niceville, FL, Mrs. Faye Krouse (Kevin) of Durham, NC, and James Purucker (Kim) of Indianapolis, IN.

Her son, Kim Edward Purucker, and sister, Phyllis Taylor, preceded her in death.

In addition, she is survived by seven grandchildren, Matthew Philippsen of Shenzhen, China, Nathaniel Philippsen of West Lafayette, IN, Nina Philippsen of South Bend, IN, Sean Purucker of Los Angeles, CA, Ryan Purucker of Delta Junction, AK, Katherine Purucker of Indianapolis, IN, and Scott Purucker of Indianapolis, IN.

Celebrations of Mrs. Purucker's life will be on Tuesday, January 6, at 2:00 at the Community Church of God, 735 S. Sun N. Lakes Blvd., Lake Placid, and on Monday, January 12, at 2:00 in Zion United Church of Christ, 715 E. Wayne St., South Bend, IN.

The Purucker family requests that memorial donations be made to the church of the donor's choice.
