Pat Bailey, age 77, entered into rest on October 21, 2002 in San Antonio, TX.

He was born September 28, 1925 in South Bend, Indiana to Frances and Charles Bailey.

Mr. Bailey served in the 3rd Marine Corps in the South Pacific and WWII. Enlisted 10 July 1943, released 2 January 1946.

He received his Masters Degree from Hardin Simmons University, Abilene, TX in 1953.

He was a four-year letterman in football and three-year letterman in baseball at Hardin-Simmons University from 1946-1950.

An outstanding athlete with great versatility, he was a four year letterman in football and three in baseball. Played fullback, tailback, and defensive back in football, catcher and third base in baseball. Is fifth on the all time Cowboy career rushing list with 1573 yards. Gained 996 yards in 1948, eighth best in school history. Earned 2nd team All-Border Conference honors for football in 1948 and was elected Captain in 1949. He was named to Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities in 1950.

He was named All Conference Back in 1948, Captain of Hardin Simmons Football Team 1949-1950, Who's Who in Universities and Colleges 1950, Hardin-Simmons Sports Hall of Fame 1994. Bailey ranks sixth on Hardin-Simmons all-time rushing list with 1,573 yards on 305 carries.

He coached high school football for a total of 36 years at the following schools, Central Catholic, Antonian College Preparatory for Boys, Edgewood, Edison, Jefferson and Laredo-Martin H.S. He was honored as San Antonio Coach of the Year 1983-84 and Laredo Coach of the Year 1973.

Coach Bailey was the Dean of Men and head coach at Antonian College Preparatory for Boys from 1965-1968. Within that time-line, Antonian had set a solid footprint into all sports.

Pat Bailey's most successful coaching job was at Edgewood, where he led the Red Raiders to unprecedented success during the early 1970s.

Mr. Bailey is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Nadine Pearl (nee Schrader) Bailey; children, Teresa Lynn and her husband Jerry, Barry Bailey his wife Linda and Pat Bailey; five grandchildren, Brandi, Brock, Jenny, Patrick and Zachary and great-granddaughter, Alyssa.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association South Central Texas Chapter, 7400 Louis Pasteur, San Antonio, TX 78229.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 23, 2002 from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Sunset Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be Thursday, October 24, 2002 at 3:00 P.M. at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Sunset Funeral Home.
