KUNS, Helen (Bortner) 88, passed away at her home on October 7, 2014.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 26, at 2:00P.M. in the chapel of Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1300 N Street in Sacramento.

Helen was born in Cairo, Ill., and came to California as a young adult, spending the rest of her life here.

Helen was a daughter of Franklin Mattoon Butler and Florence Harriet Windsor

In 1949 she married William J. Bortner and is survived by their children, Jola Bortner, Laurie Bortner, and David Bortner (Dinah); grandchildren, Jessica Castorena, Marta Green (Quentin), Beth Bortner, Holly Bortner Brigance (Joe), Colin Bortner, Rebecca Clements; 8 great-grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews and their families.

Her husband, Bill, their daughter, Shelley Bortner Jager, and grandson, Gabriel Castorena, and her two sisters, Joan Kochanovich and Mary Mensch, predeceased her.

Helen and her second husband, Owen Kenneth Kuns met at their church, Westminster Presbyterian, where they were active members. After her retirement, they traveled extensively, enjoyed camping, dancing and attending concerts, spending 24 years together before his death.

Helen was accomplished at piano and loved to sing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacramento Habitat for Humanity, 819 N. 10th Street, Sacramento, CA 95811.
