SOUTH BEND - Elizabeth Ann McGowan, 87, formerly of South Bend, IN, passed away Thursday, May 10, at the Prairie Estates Care Center in Elk Point, SD.
Elizabeth Erhardt was born January 24, 1925, in South Bend, to George and Edith (Whiteman) Erhardt. She attended schools in South Bend and went on to receive her RN degree from the St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing. She married Robert McGowan on April 5, 1947, in South Bend; Robert passed away in 2004. She was an RN at St. Joseph Medical Center in South Bend and also for a local doctor.
Liz was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; two brothers, George and Jack Erhardt; and three sisters, Jean VanBellegham, Edith Jordan and Joan Burton.
She is survived by her son, Michael (Charlotte) of Berrien Center, MI; a daughter, Patricia (Edward) Flanigan of Burbank, SD; and two sisters, Betty (Arthur) Gember of Three Oaks, MI, and Caryl (Hutch) Stevens of Ponte Verda Beach, FL. Also surviving her are three grandchildren, Karie McGowan of Greenfield, IN, Sean (Cara) of Indianapolis, IN, and Catherine Flanigan-Brick (Dr. Scott) of Osage Beach, MO; and great-grandchildren, Savannah and Grady Brick.
Funeral services will be 11:30 am Saturday, May 19, 2012, at the Zion United Church of Christ in South Bend, IN. hansenfuneralhome.com
