SOUTH BEND - Annabelle M. Whiteman, 83, a longtime resident of Park Jefferson Apts. South Bend, passed away at 3:43 p.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2009 in Our Lady of Peace Hospital, South Bend. She was born May 27, 1925 in South Bend, the daughter of James Lew & Belle S. (Sernstrom) Fortin, and has been a lifelong resident.

On June 1, 1943 in South Bend, as Annabelle Fortin, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Ernest Eugene Whiteman. Together, they enjoyed fifty-five years of marriage until his passing on November 13, 1998. Mrs. Whiteman is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Peg & Robert Dunn of South Bend, her two sons and their wives,
Robert E. & Sally Whiteman of Greer, SC, and James & Carol Whiteman of Marietta, GA. Also surviving Annabelle are eight grandchildren, Michelle Whiteman, Christopher
(Kim) Whiteman, of Marietta, GA, Anna Whiteman and Erik Whiteman, of California, Katherine Anne (Michael) Austin, of Simpsonville, SC, Robert Andrew Whiteman, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Dee Anne Dunn, and Kristi Jean Dunn both of South Bend. Her sister, Bonnie Swan of South Bend, also survives her.

Mrs. Whiteman retired from 1st Source Bank where she worked as a teller for ten years. She was also employed for ten years at Robertson's Dept. Store. She was a member of River Park United Methodist Church, an active member of the former Avalon Grotto Auxiliary, member and Past Worthy Matron of Order of Eastern Star Chapter #569, Sigma Phi Gamma, Robinhood Golf League, and the Elks Tuesday AM Bowling League.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 21, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend. Graveside services and burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. today in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel where members of the
Order of Eastern Star St. Joseph Chapter #569 will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. today.

Contributions in memory of Annabelle Whiteman may be offered to the Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
