MISHAWAKA - George A. Sousley, 84, of Mishawaka, formerly of South Bend, died at 10:23 a.m. Sunday, November 15, 2009, in Regency Place of South Bend following an illness. George was born on March 4, 1925, in Mishawaka, Indiana, the son of Raymond and Amanda (Lauber) Sousley.

He married Mary Harringer in August 1947. She preceded him in death. In August 1992, he married Eunice Moo, who also preceded him in death.

George is survived by his sisters, Mary Ann Gradeless of Mishawaka and Rita Benjamin of South Bend. Also surviving are his four children, Nancy A. Plennert (Jack), G. Patrick Sousley (Kathy), Barbara M. Burns (Charlie) and William J. (Laura); 11 grandchildren, Chris Plennert (Nicole), Heather Cline (Bryan), Ryan Sousley (Aubrey), Brian Burns, Colin Burns, Jenna Criniti (Mark), Jillian Sousley, Jon-Michael Plennert, Tyler, Ellie and Tanner Sousley; and four great-grandchildren, Jack Ryan Plennert, Nolan Cline, Evie Sousley and James Criniti. All will miss him dearly.

George was a graduate of John Adams High School and continued his education at the post-secondary level in electrical engineering. He served in the United States Army during World War II, participating in the D-Day invasion in Normandy. Prior to his retirement in 1989 he held the position of Superintendent of Maintenance at the Allied Signal-Bendix Corporation. In the early 1960s George became involved with little league baseball, serving for many years as manager and as coach for his children's and later his grandchildren's teams. George was an active member of St. John the Baptist Church in South Bend and, more recently, was a parishioner at St. Joseph Church in Mishawaka. Also, he was a long-standing member of the Knights of Columbus.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 21st, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill St., Mishawaka, with Rev. Terry Fisher officiating. Cremation will take place at Welsheimer Crematory. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the parish hall of the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill St., Mishawaka, IN 46544.
