GRANGER - Eleanor J. Emrick, 91, of Granger, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017, at Brookdale Senior Living, Granger. Eleanor was born April 1, 1926, in South Bend, to the late Mary (Kruk) and Lawrence Akre.

On August 11, 1946, in South Bend, Eleanor married Ray “Bud” Emrick, who passed away September 17, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Lorraine Kish. Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Sandy (Keith) Kaniewski of South Bend; son, Larry Scott (Pam) Emrick of Cassopolis, MI; four granddaughters, Emily (Kent) Reese, of Constantine, MI, Brianna (Jesse) Hewson, of Madras, OR, Kristen (Danny) Causey, of Franklin, IN, and Lisa Kaniewski, of Mishawaka; three great-grandsons, Michael and Cody Reese, and Wyatt Hewson.

Eleanor worked for N.J.A.T.C. until her retirement. They were active members of the First Christian Church before its closing. Eleanor was a longtime member of School Men's Wife's Club. After Bud's retirement from teaching, they became members of the “snowbird's club” and spent their winters in Navarre Beach, Florida.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers and nurses at Arborwood/Brookdale, Granger, IN. We would like also to express our gratitude to Bonnie and the aides from the Center for Hospice. Visitation will held from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, with services to follow at 6:00 p.m.

Private burial will be held at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park Cemetery, Granger. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Family and friends may leave e-mail condolences at www.welsheimer.com.
