Feb. 21, 1926 – May 13, 1972

James R. Ball, 46, of 2752 Kettering Dr., was dead on arrival at 8:05 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Mishawaka, after suffering an apparent heart attack.

Mr. Ball was training program manager for Ames Co., Inc., Division of Miles Laboratories, Elkhart, conducting training of company personnel in the United States, Latin America, Japan, and Africa.

Mr. Ball was currently serving as secretary for the Michiana chapter of the American Society for Training and Development and as general chairman of the Sales and Training Division of the American Society for Training and Development.

He was a former treasurer of the local chapter of the society, and contributed professional training articles to Sales Meetings Magazine and Newsletter, an official publication of the society. He was scheduled to speak at the International Training Conference to be held in August in Geneva, Switzerland.

Mr. Ball was born on Feb. 21, 1926, in South Bend and returned to South Bend in 1960 from Dayton, Ohio. On June 20, 1948, in Fort Wayne, he married Sally Ogden, who survives, along with his mother, Mrs. Barbara L. Ball of South Bend, two sons, J. Michael and Stephen R., both students at Indiana University, Bloomington.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday by Rev. Haven C. Kelley Jr., pastor of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.

Mr. Ball graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington, in 1949, and was a World War II veteran. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge and Sigma Pi National Society Fraternity.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Fund.
