JANET BEKER OBITUARY

Janet Beker, 82, of Rancho Bernardo, passed away on May 12, surrounded by her family after suffering complications from a massive aneurism. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt and friend who will be remembered for her irrepressible cheerful disposition. She leaves behind a son, Dirk and daughter-in-law Jennifer, of East Hampton, Connecticut; sisters, Dorothy Routt and Fran Miller both of Rancho Bernardo; and brother, Bill Bickel of South Bend, Indiana.

Janet was born in South Bend, Indiana, to Dr. David and Mary Bickel. She attended Northwestern University where she enjoyed all that college life had to offer, especially the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. After graduation, she married Professor Chris Beker in 1951. His employment took them to Columbia University, UC Berkeley and Princeton University. Janet was ecstatic when son Dirk arrived in 1960.

Janet and her son moved to Vista in 1973 where the single mother took up employment at The San Diego Superior Court Law Library. She retired in 1986 and moved to Rancho Bernardo to live with her mother in Seven Oaks.
Janet was an avid reader, bird watcher and tennis enthusiast. She also loved hiking and the beach. Janet was a frequent traveler and especially relished her trips to London.

Friends are welcome to attend a memorial planned for Wednesday, May 20th at 2pm at the home of her sister, Fran Miller at 12755 Abra Drive in Rancho Bernardo.
