Russell Earl Borton, 77, of Currant Road in Mishawaka, Ind., passed away of natural causes at 6:47 a.m. Monday, June 14, in the Fountainview Place Nursing Home.

Russell was born July 22, 1926, to Earl R. and Flossie (Steiner) Borton in South Bend, Ind. On May 23, 1947, Mr. Borton married the former Ms. Betty Musser in St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Mishawaka. Betty survives.

Also surviving are his daughter, Linda Miller, and her husband, Gordon of Granger, Ind.; a sister, Violet Hensel of South Bend; three grandchildren, James Berger and his wife, Dawn of Mishawaka, SSGT Kenneth Berger and his wife, Kelly of San Diego, Calif., and Shawn Berger and his wife, Tammi of Elkhart, Ind.; as well as nine great-grandchildren.

Russell was preceded in death by his son, Mark Allen Borton in 1972, and by a sister.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today, June 16, in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, Ind. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 17, in St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Mishawaka, with interment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. VFW Post #360 will conduct military rites at the graveside.

Mr. Borton was a graduate of the Class of 1944 of John Adams High School in South Bend. Following graduation, Russell enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country, obtaining the rank of staff sergeant and earning a Bronze Star and Purple Heart before his honorable discharge in November 1946. Mr. Borton was employed for 25 years with the Uniroyal Corporation in the chemical lab, and then with Babcock-ACCO for 11 years as a quality control analyst. Russell was also a member of VFW Post #360 in Mishawaka. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, and his skills as a handyman allowed him to handle do-it-yourself projects around his home. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

Memorial donations in his name may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
