Norma Jean Schafer , 70, of Plano, Texas, formerly of South Bend, Ind. and Orange, Texas, passed away on Monday, Oct. 14, in Columbia Medical Center of Plano.

She was born on Aug. 19, 1926, in South Bend, to Philip I. and Clara (Troeger) Schafer .

Norma was retired from Memorial Hospital of South Bend, where she was a nurse in the emergency room until 1970.

She is survived by her family, Bob and Carol Spence, and Meredith, Robert and Nelson Spence, Gary and Judy Smith, Lonnie Troeger, Sandra Kessler, John Troeger, Thomas Troeger, Jack Troeger, Earl Troeger, Jr. and Robert Waechter.

Norma was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, South Bend, and the National Nurse's Association.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 19, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William, South Bend, with burial to follow at Southlawn Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Memorial contributions, in memory of Norma , may be made to Zion United Church of Christ, the American Cancer Society, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
