SOUTH BEND - Lila Slutsky Peltz, born April 11, 1927, to the late Samuel and Agnes Slutsky in South Bend, Indiana, married for 58 years to the late Robert M. Peltz, passed away on Dec. 10, 2007.
Lila is survived by her 4 children: James Peltz, Terry Feldbaum (Alan), Judy Wein (Richard) of South Bend, IN, and Rick Peltz (Emily) of Carmel, Indiana; 8 grandchildren: Amber Cherrier, Suzy Peltz, Rachel Antin (Ben), Emily Levinson (Aaron), Sarah Feldbaum, Sam Wein, Daniel Feldbaum, Abby Peltz; 2 great-grandchildren, Devin Cherrier, and Adam Antin, who was born on the day of her death.
Lila was an avid gardner, a volunteer extraordinaire, and a formidable woman with strong views who would not be denied. She was immensely devoted to her children and grandchildren. She was a longtime member of Temple Beth-El having dedicated many years of service and commitment to its success. She loved her time on Diamond Lake from childhood through her grandparenting days. Always ready with chocolate chip cookies and an abundance of food for friends and family. Her greatest pleasure in life was being the Matriarch of the family.
Lila's family is appreciative of the many caregivers throughout her extended illness, especially Amber Wolfe and the staff at Caring Junction and Harbor Lights Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Sinai Synagogue, 1102 E. LaSalle Ave., South Bend, IN 46617; Temple Beth El, 305 W. Madison St., South Bend, IN 46601; or the Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley, 3202 Shalom Way, South Bend, IN 46615.
Funeral services at Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery Chapel, Calhoun Street, Mishawaka, at 1:00 Friday, November 18, with burial to follow.
